Strength Training Is The Real Deal

Two women with two dumbbells lunging.

Here’s what blows my mind: people still think of “fitness” as how many pounds they want to lose. If I had a dollar every time someone said, “I just want to lose five pounds”...

Elemental Coaching was founded in part to change how you measure your sense of wellness. This is less about the number on the scale and more about how well you feel - physically, mentally, emotionally.

Frankly, the bathroom scale makes a better doorstop than it is a tool for fitness. Your weight does not determine your value as a person. Elemental Coaching has a different idea: body recomposition.

And it’s The Real Deal.

In the simplest of terms: body recomposition replaces body fat with muscle mass - eliminating your need for the scale. The truth: a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat, but muscle is far denser than fat. No joke: less fat and more muscle = more weight!

This is not something your bathroom scale will tell you. You may weigh more, but damnit if you don’t look and feel better. This only happens through strength training.

10 Reasons Why Strength Training Is The Real Deal

10. Everyday activities are easier. When you spend less time thinking about how heavy something is, you tend to get more done.

9. You preserve muscle mass and bone density as you age. You’ll be doing this into your 90s.

8. Physical strength leads to mental and emotional strength. That little flex you do when you walk by the mirror? That breeds confidence and empowerment.

7. Your resting metabolic rate increases. As in: you’re burning calories while you’re snoozing (more on that in a minute), meaning your body demands more calories - you can eat more!

6.  Your balance, coordination, and posture improve. Well-trained muscles can do more with less and aren’t fatigued as often.

5. Chronic disease symptoms (like diabetes and arthritis) alleviate. Sometimes, they’re even eradicated.

4. Endorphins: bring on the good mood! (Also, happy people just don’t kill their partners!)

3. You’ll sleep like a rock every night, no problem.

2.  You can put a nice fern or potted plant in your bathroom in the spot your scale used to inhabit.

1. Let’s be real: dat ass. Strength training means lots of squats, and lots of squats means Becky better look out!

So, what are you waiting for? Lift heavy things!
