Fat Loss Is Just The Beginning

Why Strength Training Is The Real Deal

What we forget about health: it is about so much more than how lean you are. Here’s why you need to add strength training to the mix.

Here’s what blows my mind: people still think of “fitness” as how many pounds they want to lose. If I had a dollar every time someone said, “I just want to lose five pounds,”... I mean, why stop there? Five pounds is, quite literally, the least you could do for yourself.

My #1 goal with Lift to Get Lean is to change how people measure their sense of wellness. I want them to focus on something other than the number on the scale. I’d rather they think about their health in a way they feel: physically, mentally, and even emotionally.

Frankly, the bathroom scale makes a better doorstop than a measure of health. Your weight does not determine your value as a person. Lift to Get Lean offers a better path: body recomposition! And it’s The Real Deal.

In the simplest of terms: body recomposition replaces body fat with muscle mass - eliminating your need for the scale. The truth: a pound of muscle weighs the same as a pound of fat, but muscle is far denser than fat. No joke: less fat and more muscle = more weight!

This is not something your bathroom scale will tell you. You may weigh more, but damnit if you don’t look and feel better. This kind of change only happens through strength training.

10 Reasons Why Strength Training Is The Real Deal

  1. Everyday activities feel easier to do. When you spend less time thinking about how heavy something is, you tend to get more done.

  1. You preserve muscle mass and bone density as you age. You’ll be doing this into your 90s.

  1. Physical strength leads to mental and emotional strength. That little flex you do when you walk by the mirror, the one you think no one else sees? That breeds confidence and empowerment.

  1. Your resting metabolism increases. As in: you’re burning calories while you’re snoozing (more on that in a minute), meaning your body demands more calories - you can eat more!

  1. Your balance, coordination, and posture improve. Well-trained muscles can do more with less and aren’t fatigued as often.

  1. Chronic disease symptoms (like diabetes and arthritis) alleviate. Sometimes, they’re even eradicated.

  1. Endorphins: bring on a good mood! (Also, happy people just don’t kill their partners!)

  1. You’ll sleep like a rock every night, no problem.

  1. You can put a nice fern or potted plant in your bathroom in the spot your scale used to inhabit.

  1. Let’s be real: dat ass. Strength training means lots of squats, and lots of squats means Becky better look out!

So, what are you waiting for? Lift heavy things!
